The Power of Myth: The Hero’s Adventure

“You’re talking about a search for the meaning of life?” I asked.
“No, no, no,” he said. “For the experience of being alive (…) People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.”
– Joseph Campbell in conversation with Bill Moyers

I’m really excited – just bought The Power of Myth. The book is based on a conversation between Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers from the famous PBS television-series of the same title. According to editor Betty Sue Flowers, the book is “designed to be a companion to the series (…) [and] exists, in part, because this is a conversation of ideas worth pondering as well as watching.”

Here’s Part One: The Hero’s adventure.
